Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho considers Portuguese youngster Bruma a rising star and has asked the board to fund a transfer.
Speculation is mounting that the winger is set for a move to the Premier League after his agent blocked Sporting Lisbon's attempts to tie the hotshot to a new contract worth £300,000, according to the Sunday Times.
The 18-year-old has been linked with several English clubs, including Manchester City and Manchester United, but Chelsea appear to be particularly interested.
Bruma's youth would be a sizeable advantage for the Blues, who will be allowed to register him in their Champions League and Premier League squads without occupying one of their few remaining spaces for non-homegrown players.
The Guinea-born midfielder has risen to prominence in the ongoing FIFA Under-20 World Cup tournament, having already scored five goals in three appearances to help his adopted nation Portugal to a round of 16 tie with Ghana.
Mourinho has been scouting Bruma since his spell at Real Madrid, though he now hopes the youngster will agree to link up with Chelsea - following the coach's decision to leave the Bernabeu and rejoin the Stamford Bridge faithful.
Bruma, who made his first-team debut for Sporting in February after five years in the renowned Portuguese academy setup, is frequently likened to Cristiano Ronaldo, the nation's all-time most successful professional footballer.
Described by the Times as "quick, skilful and capable of playing anywhere across the forward line", if Portugal's latest prodigious player is in any way near to emulating Ronaldo, he is certain to be a fantastic signing for Chelsea.
